The first three terms are ...
  -2
  3(-2) -1 = -7
  3(-7) -1 = -22

_____
The "-1" in the recursion formula tells you this is NOT a "geometric" sequence. In a geometric sequence, the ratio of terms is a constant. Here, it is not.
