Water is called the Universal Solvent. Water is regarded as being versatile because of its capability to dissolve many substances which is expected because of its polarity. Water's composition contributes to its solvent abilities, with one side having a negative electrical charge(oxygen) and the other a positive charge(hydrogen) this allows it to attract other molecules thus dissolving them.
