14 < n - 3

We must isolate n. To do that we must bring -3 to the left side of the equation.  To make -3 zero on the right side of the equation and bring it to the left side you must add 3 to both sides like so...

14 + 3 < n + (-3 + 3)

17 < n + 0

17 < n
