The primary difference is that the inner core is solid ( higher in density)due to immense pressure and  the outer core is moltane, and churned and stirred because of the rotation of inner core. This give the rise to the concept of "Geodyanmo" the reason for Earth's magnetic field.

Both the cores are made of iron and nickel.
