Why do authors use red herrings?

Answer:

Red herrings are mostly used in mystery and thriller stories, and they are used to give the wrong conclusion so when the second book comes out they will become shocked. For an example they give a false conclusion in a mystery story saying who the culprit is. But when the second book comes out, it is someone else.
