Why was the invention of the telegraph important to the economic success of the United States?

People were able to communicate by wire from far away places. Soon, people all over the U.S, were using a telegraph. Later though, this contributed to the telephone(invented my Alexander Graham Bell), which people now buy all over the world in forms of a home phone and cell phone.
