There are 12 animals in the barn. Some are geese and some are cows. There are 32 legs in all. How many of each animal are there?

4 cows and 8 geese

you can do 32 divided by 2 for close to an even number of geese and cows. this will give you 16. you know that cows have 4 legs so to make one cow you use 16-4 or 16 divided by 4 to give you 4 cows. we know that the geese have 2 legs each so you can use 16-2 until you get down to zero or 16 divided by 2 to give you 8 geese in total
