How do ionic compound characteristics relate to the nature of ionic bonds

Ionic compounds have very high melting and boiling point. This property tells us that the particles are bonded together by strong electrostatic forces of attraction. It is because of this very strong electrostatic forces that gives the compound high melting and boiling point.
