A rational number written as a decimal will either terminate (AKA stop) or it will repeat.

1/2 = 0.5

1/10 = 0.1

1/3 = 0.333...

7/9 = 0.777...

217/999 = 0.217217217...

As long as the decimal terminates or it repeats, it will be a rational number.
