Multiply the 1st equation by 2 and the 2nd by 5 to get:
10x-6y= -18
10x-25y=20
subtract equation 2 from equation 1 and the x's cancel:
10x-6y= -18
10x-25y=20
19y= -38
y= -2
substitute y= -2 into either of the original equations to get x= -3
