If the two lines are parallel then the two angles are equal - vertically opposite angles are always equal:
6x - 7 = 4x - 1

First get all the x’s on one side and the numbers on the other:
6x - 4x = -1 + 7

This can be simplified:
2x = 6

Finally, divide both sides by 2:
x = 3
