Explanation:

Consider the point (1,2). If we apply the rule [tex](x,y) \to (-x,y)[/tex], then it would move to (-1,2).

The x coordinate flipped in sign from positive to negative. The y coordinate stays the same.

Another example is (-3,7) reflecting to (3,7).
