Hello there! Sound waves differ from other waves (electromagnetic waves in particular). Sound waves differ from these because:

• They require a medium (solid, liquid, or gas)

• They cannot travel through the vacuums of space

• They require matter to travel

• They emit a different natural sense from electromagnetic waves, which is sound
