According to the distributive property:

[tex] \alpha ( \beta + \gamma ) = \alpha \beta + \alpha \gamma [/tex]

So, applying this to our equation:

[tex]7(x + 3y) = 7 \times x + 7 \times 3y \\ 7(x + 3y) = 7x + 21y[/tex]
