1 1/2 yards. 1 ribbon=1/4 yard 4 ribbons=1 yards. That leaves 2 ribbons left over. 1/4 +1/4=1/2. Thus, 1 1/2 yards

He would have bought 1 1/2 Yards of ribbon.  Think of it in quarters, if you have 4 quarters then you have 1 dollar, if you have 6 quarters then you have 1 1/2 dollars, so just use ribbons instead of quarters and you'll have your answer.  Hope this helps!
