the Aztec people became so powerful because they focused on warfare, and the advancement of military weapons to conquer neighboring civilizations.

I believe from what I have learned about the Aztecs is that they were an army that conquered other groups and made them fight with their army, so as they conquered more groups, they had more and more people to fight in their army.
