He was striving for more jobs for the unemployed and markets for farmer’s produce.  With the collapse of the economy, many workers were laid off and farmers had no market for their crops.  It was during Roosevelt’s administration that government took an active role in reforming the economy by implementing several programs that would stimulate the economy.
