Austin said, I know 1/4 is less than 1/2 , so that means 3/12 is less than 1/2 . Does Austin's reasoning make sense ? Explain.

Yes, his reasoning makes sense. 3/12 is the same value as 1/4. All he did was multiply the fraction, 1/4, by 3 on the top and bottom for a proportional amount.
