Gabriela Mistral was the first Latin American who win the Nobel Prize for Literature. It was in year 1945. Gabriela Mistral was born in Vicuña, Chile on 7 April 1889.The Nobel citation read: “for her lyric poetry which, inspired by powerful emotions, has made her name a symbol of the idealistic aspirations of the entire Latin American world“
