Well,

If an object is in free fall, that means that it is falling solely under the influence of gravity.  Nothing, not even air resistance, is exerting a force on it.

As we all know, the acceleration due to gravity near the earth's surface is:
[tex]9.8\ m/s^2[/tex]

Or, if you like it in English:
[tex]32\ ft./s.^2[/tex]
