3x - 2 = 13
    + 2   + 2
     3x = 15
      3      3
       x = 5

The answer is C.

Let the number be x:

 3*x-2=13

∴3x=13+2

∴3x=15         (divide both sides by 3)

∴x=5      the answer is C
